Wyrmwood offers a variety of dice in various materials. This article will explain some of the differences so that you can find the perfect set for you.
Acrylic/Resin
These materials are the most basic and plentiful, and the majority of dice on the market are made from one or the other. They're generally inexpensive, crafted in large batches from plastic. The process varies, but the results are generally similar, with some minor aesthetic differences. They are tumbled to remove sharp edges. These materials are very flexible, with a seemingly infinite number of colors, styles and opacity levels available. Dice made from acrylic/resin are generally lightweight and durable, which, when combined with their affordability, is a major reason they've become the dominant choice on the market.
Sharp-edged Resin
Dice of this style have become very popular in recent years. While the material is the same as the resin found on inexpensive dice, these dice are left sharp-edged for precision, and this means there must be a great deal of care taken to avoid rough edges or burrs, while leaving the crisp lines intact. These dice also often feature inclusions of various materials. Our sharp-edged resin dice are bit oversized vs traditional dice, but they are still able to fit comfortably in our Dice Vaults.
Metal
Metal dice are available, as well, and are crafted from - you guessed it - metal. These dice are aesthetically distinct, and offer a heavy weight in the hand - and on the table (which can cause problems - metal dice are known to cause pitting and dents on tabletops, so it's strongly recommended one use a dice tray with metal dice). Most metal dice are not crafted from solid pieces of metal in the way gemstone dice are, but are poured as liquid alloys, crafted in a similar manner to acrylic/resin dice.
Gemstone
Gemstone dice are the most luxurious widely available option for dice, and a wide range of materials is available. Some are natural, such as amethyst, labradorite or hematite, while others are man-made, such as sandstone or prismatic glass. Gemstone dice are aesthetically striking, and each set will be unique. The weight will vary with the material, but most will fall between acrylic/resin and metal, a comfortable middle ground in heft. However, gemstone and glass are the most fragile material for dice, and they can easily chip or break if care is not taken. But, if treated properly, they can make excellent, and memorable dice for years to come.
